Data Security with CyberQuest

Big data and big data analytics are being used in every industry vertical. With all the advantages they offer and the promise they hold, it has now reached a point where more data is being produced than what can be handled, and this is leading to specific complications. “Most challenges come from the huge amount of data generated by multiple, disparate technologies and sources in a non-consistent, heterogeneous manner," says Marius Sticlaru, PhD., Managing Partner of Nextgen Software.

“Security officers need to handle chaos and navigate through an ocean of data while seeing only part of it,” he continues. There is much room left for severe internal security breaches that mostly go unnoticed. In addition, there is the risk of external breaches, which are equally detrimental in terms of financial, legal, regulatory, and reputational complications. Romania-based Nextgen Softwares' high-performance solution, CyberQuest unifies the disparate systems and applications within a company’s environment. CyberQuest is a fully scalable big data security analytics platform and a new generation security information and event management (SIEM) that collects valuable data from multiple sources and offers visibility, governance, and real-time response to cybersecurity challenges, empowering users to take critical and actionable decisions.

Solution:

CyberQuest interprets high volumes of data at a rapid pace using intelligent data processing and correlation mechanisms. It can integrate with legacy systems within minutes, giving it the ability to pinpoint threat locations. The platform comes with intuitive custom dynamic dashboards that show users only the information that is required. The platform is technologically agnostic— it can collect information from any number of sources regardless of format and logging type (data stream, log files, database tables, etcetera). CyberQuest uses fast NoSQL databases with a full-text indexed clustered search that reduces query response time, while also decreasing data-intake time. To ensure data integrity, the offline archive is compressed, encrypted, and digitally signed. CyberQuest’s services are distributed horizontally to maintain the vast amounts of data flows and manage throttling mechanisms, which in turn prevent the hogging of resources when there are spikes in the data intake.
The recent developments in the EU GDPR regulations have changed the way most organizations function pertaining to data. CyberQuest offers support to companies that are looking to become GDPR compliant by ensuring the security and integrity of data in accordance with the directive’s requirements. Nextgen enables companies to manage access to their data, monitor changes, and investigate any potential breaches, all with the aim of ensuring data protection by design while being compliant through user-defined reports.

Case Study:

BCR Romania is the leader of the Romanian banking system and a member of Erste Group. BCR implemented CyberQuest for increased operational effectiveness for three major divisions within the bank: Networking, Database and UNIX Systems Administration.

The customer required unification of data from various departments, transparency and visibility into security data and events, with the possibility of preventing incidents and reacting based on documented and integrated data. They also needed to correlate and collect data from various products, to ensure security compliance, full reporting and easy investigation of potential incidents. This translated into quick access for the support and admin teams to operational data in BCR’s infrastructure. The customer took full advantage of CyberQuest’s ability to customize data gathering flows. CyberQuest provided the proper instruments for data collection, analysis and reporting across the monitored infrastructure. This enabled the operational and security teams to correlate data from multiple sites and systems, and allowed them to make critical decisions based on these correlations.

In the coming days, Nextgen is looking to expand the reach of its solution, by building a strong partner network in Europe, the U.S., and the Middle East, with an enhanced focus on the DACH countries.
